Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Overview

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is designed for travellers who want to experience the classic Everest Base Camp route with greater comfort and a shorter return journey. The trek takes place in the Everest region, beginning with a flight to Lukla and continuing through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m.

The itinerary includes two planned acclimatization days. In Namche Bazaar, you hike towards Syangboche and Everest View Hotel before returning to Namche to spend the night. In Dingboche, the acclimatization hike heads towards Nagarjun Hill, reaching a higher elevation before descending back to the village. These gradual altitude gains are an important part of the itinerary, helping you prepare for the higher sections of the trek.

Along the way, the trail passes through Sherpa villages, Buddhist monasteries, rhododendron and pine forests, glacial valleys and increasingly rugged mountain terrain. The trek becomes more demanding above Dingboche as the altitude increases, so although the accommodation and helicopter return provide additional comfort, this remains a serious high-altitude trek. Good fitness, appropriate preparation and careful acclimatization are essential.

After reaching Everest Base Camp, you return to Gorakshep for the night. The following morning begins with an early hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m), one of the best viewpoints for seeing Mount Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After descending to Gorakshep, you board a helicopter to Lukla and then continue by helicopter to Kathmandu, avoiding the long walk back through the Khumbu Valley. If you would like to see Everest without a multi-day trek, our Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour provides a shorter alternative.

What Makes the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Different?

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return follows the same classic Everest Base Camp Trek route as the traditional trek, but combines selected higher-quality accommodation, planned acclimatization and a helicopter return to make the journey more comfortable and time-efficient.

During the trekking portion, you stay in selected teahouses and mountain lodges where better accommodation options are available. Comfort levels vary along the route, and facilities become more basic at higher elevations, particularly in Lobuche and Gorakshep, where accommodation choices are limited by the remote mountain environment.

The main difference comes at the end of the trek. After reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and completing the early-morning hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m), you do not walk back through the Khumbu Valley. Instead, you return by helicopter from Gorakshep to Lukla and onward to Kathmandu, subject to weather and flight conditions. This removes several days of downhill trekking and allows the main Everest Base Camp experience to be completed in 9 days.

The shorter itinerary does not mean skipping the key acclimatization stages. The trek includes planned acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, with higher daytime hikes followed by overnight stays at the same elevation. This keeps the essential acclimatization structure while using the helicopter return to shorten the overall journey.

Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return – 9 Days Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Lukla (2,860 m) and Trek to Phakding (2,610 m)

Max Altitude: 2,860m (9,383ft)
Duration: Approx. 3–4 hours
Distance: Approx. 7–8 km
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Your Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek begins with an early flight to Lukla, the main gateway to the Everest region. Depending on current flight operations, the flight may operate from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. When flights operate from Manthali, our team arranges the early-morning road transfer from Kathmandu to the airport.

After landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you meet your trekking crew and begin the walk towards Phakding. The trail passes through Chaurikharka, cultivated fields and forested sections before following the Dudh Koshi Valley towards Phakding. The first day is relatively short, allowing you to settle into the trekking pace and enjoy the first views of the Everest region.

Day 2

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

Max Altitude: 3,440m (11,286ft)
Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Distance: Approx. 10–12 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

After breakfast, continue through the Dudh Koshi Valley towards Namche Bazaar. The trail passes through Monjo and Jorsale before entering Sagarmatha National Park. Along the way, you cross several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge, before beginning the long uphill climb towards Namche.

The trail becomes steeper as you gain altitude, making the final section to Namche one of the more demanding parts of the day. Depending on the weather and visibility, you may get your first views of Mount Everest, along with Thamserku and other Himalayan peaks. After reaching Namche Bazaar, check into your accommodation and take some time to rest or explore the town's shops and cafés.

Day 3

Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

Max Altitude: 3,880m (12,729ft)
Duration: Approx. 3–4 hours
Distance: Approx. 5–6 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Today is set aside for acclimatization before you continue to higher elevations. Rather than spending the whole day resting, take a gradual hike from Namche Bazaar to Syangboche and Everest View Hotel, reaching approximately 3,880 m. After spending some time at the higher elevation, follow the trail back to Namche Bazaar. This higher daytime hike, followed by a return to Namche, helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude.

The route provides wide views of the Mahalangur Himalayan range, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku when the weather is clear. After returning to Namche Bazaar, have lunch and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. You can explore the local shops and cafés, walk around the village or rest at the lodge.

Day 4

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m)

Max Altitude: 3,860m (12,664ft)
Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Distance: Approx. 9–10 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Continue along a scenic hillside trail with views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kwangde Ri on clear days. The trail gradually descends towards Phunki Tenga, where you cross the Dudh Koshi River before beginning the steady climb towards Tengboche through forests of rhododendron, pine and fir.

Tengboche is home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Khumbu region. Visit the monastery and enjoy the surrounding mountain views before settling into your accommodation for the night.

Day 5

Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 m)

Max Altitude: 4,410m (14,468ft)
Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Distance: Approx. 11–12 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

After breakfast in Tengboche, descend through the forest towards Deboche before crossing the Imja Khola and continuing through Pangboche and Shomare. The trail gradually climbs through traditional Sherpa villages, passing mani walls, cultivated fields and open hillside landscapes. As you gain altitude, the forest becomes thinner and the views open up, with Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Island Peak standing prominently above the valley.

Continue along the Imja Valley towards Dingboche, a broad mountain valley surrounded by high Himalayan peaks. After arriving, settle into your accommodation and rest. You will spend the following day in Dingboche for acclimatisation, with a hike towards Nagarjun Hill before returning to the village.

Day 6

Acclimatization Day in Dingboche (4,410 m)

Max Altitude: 5,050m (16,568ft)
Duration: Approx. 4–5 hours
Distance: Approx. 5–6 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse or Lodge
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Today is another important acclimatisation day before continuing towards the higher sections of the Everest Base Camp route. Take a gradual morning hike towards Nagarjun Hill, reaching up to approximately 5,050 m, depending on conditions and individual pace. The climb can be demanding at this altitude, so the pace remains steady with regular rest breaks. From the higher viewpoint, you can enjoy broad views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and other surrounding peaks when the weather is clear.

After the hike, return to Dingboche for lunch and spend the afternoon resting or exploring the village. Staying another night at the same elevation gives your body more time to adjust before continuing towards Lobuche and Gorakshep. You can also use the afternoon to organise your gear and prepare for the higher sections of the trek.

Day 7

Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche (4,940 m)

Max Altitude: 4,940m (16,207ft)
Duration: Approx. 5–6 hours
Distance: Approx. 11–12 km
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Continue from Dingboche towards Lobuche through the open landscapes of the upper Khumbu Valley. The trail gradually climbs towards Thukla, with views of Cholatse, Taboche, Pumori and other surrounding Himalayan peaks. As you gain altitude, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and the air noticeably thinner.

From Thukla, the trail climbs towards Thukla Pass, where memorials honour climbers and Sherpas who lost their lives during expeditions in the Everest region. From here, continue along the Khumbu Glacier moraine towards Lobuche, a small high-altitude settlement close to the glacier. The increasing elevation makes this a more demanding day, despite the relatively short distance.

Day 8

Trek from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Return to Gorakshep (5,164 m)

Max Altitude: 5,364m (17,598ft)
Duration: Approx. 7–8 hours
Distance: Approx. 15–16 km
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Teahouse
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Today is the main objective of your Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek. Start from Lobuche and follow the rocky trail towards Gorakshep, the last settlement on the Everest Base Camp route. After a short break in Gorakshep, continue through the rugged terrain beside the Khumbu Glacier towards Everest Base Camp. The trail crosses rocky and uneven terrain, and the increasing altitude makes this one of the most demanding days of the trek.

At Everest Base Camp, you can see the Khumbu Icefall and surrounding glacial landscape. Mount Everest itself is not visible from Base Camp because it is hidden behind Nuptse and the surrounding peaks. After spending time at Base Camp, retrace the trail to Gorakshep, where you spend the night.

Day 9

Early Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) and Fly Back to Kathmandu by Helicopter

Max Altitude: 5,545m (18,192ft)
Duration: Approx. 2–3 hours
Distance: Approx. 3–4 km
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: N/A
Mode of Transportation: Trek

Start early from Gorakshep and hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) for spectacular sunrise views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. After spending time at the viewpoint, descend to Gorakshep for breakfast.

After breakfast, board a helicopter from Gorakshep to Lukla for refuelling, then continue the flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. You will also receive a Trip Completion Certificate to mark the successful completion of your trek.

Essential Information

Useful Information about the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is a high-altitude journey through the Everest region, following the classic route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters and Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters. The itinerary includes planned acclimatization in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, several days of walking at increasing elevations, changing mountain weather and a helicopter return from Gorakshep via Lukla to Kathmandu. Good preparation is important because the trek reaches high altitude and includes demanding sections above Dingboche.

The information below covers the main practical points to consider before starting the trek and what to expect during your journey.

Before Your Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

Good preparation makes the trek more comfortable and helps you deal with the changing conditions of the Everest region. Before leaving Kathmandu, make sure your travel documents, insurance, trekking equipment and personal belongings are ready.

The trek reaches Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters, where temperatures can be very cold and weather conditions can change quickly. You should also be prepared for long walking days, strong sunlight and thinner air as you gain altitude. Flights to Lukla may also be affected by weather and operating conditions.

What Should You Do Before Starting the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Before starting your trek, we recommend completing a few important preparations in Kathmandu:

  • Check that your passport and Nepal visa are valid.
  • Make sure your travel insurance covers high-altitude trekking, medical treatment and emergency evacuation.
  • Check your trekking boots and other essential equipment before leaving Kathmandu.
  • Organize your main trekking bag and keep daily essentials in your daypack.
  • Keep your passport, insurance documents, money, medication and valuables with you.
  • Carry enough Nepalese cash for personal expenses during the trek.
  • Inform your guide about any dietary requirements or other important needs.
  • Complete any last-minute equipment purchases or rentals before travelling to Lukla.
  • Get enough rest before the flight and avoid starting the trek feeling exhausted.

Note: Pack practical, reliable equipment rather than unnecessary items. A suitable layering system, comfortable trekking boots and protection from cold, wind and strong sunlight are particularly important. Your guide can also review your equipment during the pre-trek briefing and advice you based on the expected conditions.

Airport Pick-up and Hotel Transfer in Kathmandu

Our representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) when you arrive in Kathmandu and arrange your transfer to your hotel by private vehicle.

Once you have checked in, you can rest after your international journey and use the remaining time to check your trekking equipment or arrange any last-minute essentials before travelling to the Everest region.

Note: Please provide your confirmed international flight details before arrival so we can arrange your airport pick-up. If your arrival time changes, let us know as early as possible so we can update the transfer arrangements.

Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Pre-Trek Briefing

We conduct a pre-trek briefing at our office in Kathmandu before you travel to the Everest region. During the briefing, you will meet your trekking guide, review the itinerary and go through the practical arrangements for the journey.

The briefing is also a good time to check your equipment, discuss any personal requirements and ask questions before travelling to Lukla.

What Happens During the Pre-Trek Briefing?

Your guide will explain the main practical aspects of the trek, including:

  • Daily trekking routes and approximate walking times
  • Altitude gain and acclimatization
  • Expected trail and weather conditions
  • Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar sections
  • Teahouse and lodge accommodation and meals
  • What to carry in your daypack
  • Guide and porter arrangements
  • Lukla flight arrangements
  • Helicopter return from Gorakshep via Lukla to Kathmandu
  • Altitude sickness and basic safety precautions
  • Emergency procedures and evacuation arrangements

You can also discuss your final preparations with your guide and raise any questions or concerns about the trek. The briefing ensures that you understand the route, daily arrangements and practical requirements before travelling to Lukla.

Lukla Flight Information for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

Flying to Lukla is the usual starting point for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek. Your flight will take you to Tenzing-Hillary Airport, the main air gateway to the Everest region, before you begin the trek towards Phakding.

Depending on the current operating schedule, Lukla flights may depart from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport in Ramechhap. Mountain flights are affected by weather and visibility, so departure times can change and delays or cancellations are possible. Our team will confirm your flight arrangements and provide the required transfer details before your trek.

How Do You Fly to Lukla for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The trek normally begins with a domestic flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport (LUA) in Lukla, located at around 2,846 meters above sea level. From Lukla, you meet your trekking team and start walking towards Phakding.

Depending on the current flight schedule, you may fly directly from Kathmandu or travel by road from Kathmandu to Manthali Airport in Ramechhap before taking the flight to Lukla. During periods when Lukla flights operate from Manthali, the road journey starts early in the morning because flights are generally scheduled early in the day.

Himalayan Ecological Trekking will confirm your departure airport, flight details and reporting time before your trek. We will also provide information about the required transfer if your flight operates from Manthali.

Lukla Flight from Kathmandu

When your flight operates from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you fly directly to Lukla. Flights are generally scheduled in the morning, although the exact departure time depends on the operating airline and conditions on the day.

The flight is short, but mountain weather can affect both departure and arrival. Cloud, poor visibility, wind and other operational conditions may cause delays, rescheduling or cancellation. Our team will provide your confirmed reporting time and flight information before departure. It is advisable to keep your schedule flexible on the day of the flight.

Lukla Flight from Manthali Airport, Ramechhap

When Lukla flights operate from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap, you travel by road from Kathmandu to Manthali before boarding your flight to Lukla. The road transfer normally starts very early to allow enough time for the morning flight. Actual travel time can vary depending on traffic, road and weather conditions. We arrange the shared ground transfer from Kathmandu to Manthali Airport when required. We will confirm the meeting point and departure time before your trek.

Note: The airport used for your Lukla flight depends on the current operating schedule. Please check your confirmed flight and transfer details before leaving Kathmandu.

What Is Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla Like?

Tenzing-Hillary Airport is a small mountain airport in Lukla at approximately 2,846 m. It is the main starting point for most trekkers heading into the Everest region.

The airport is much smaller than Kathmandu's international airport, with more basic facilities and limited space. Because of its mountain location, weather and visibility can have a significant effect on flight operations.

After landing, you collect your luggage, meet our trekking team and begin the walk towards Phakding, the first overnight stop on your itinerary.

Lukla Flight Baggage Allowance

Lukla flights operate with smaller aircraft and have limited baggage capacity. The standard baggage allowance is 10 kg of checked baggage and 5 kg of hand baggage per passenger, giving a total of 15 kg, although the exact allowance can vary according to the airline, ticket and operating conditions.

We recommend keeping your luggage within this limit to avoid excess baggage charges and possible loading restrictions.

  • Checked baggage: Commonly around 10 kg per passenger.
  • Hand baggage: Commonly around 5 kg per passenger.
  • Excess baggage: Additional charges may apply, and excess luggage may be subject to available aircraft capacity.
  • Important belongings: Keep your passport, travel documents, medication, valuables and essential electronics in your hand baggage.
  • Non-essential luggage: Any items you do not need during the trek can be stored securely at our office in Kathmandu and collected after you return from the trek.

Important

Your Lukla flight baggage allowance and trekking luggage allowance are separate. Even when using porter service, the airline's baggage limit still applies.

We will confirm the applicable baggage allowance before departure, as airline requirements and operating conditions can change.

What Happens During Lukla Flight Delays or Cancellations?

Lukla flights can be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled because of poor visibility, cloud, strong winds, adverse weather or other operational reasons. Mountain conditions can change quickly, so flight schedules cannot always be guaranteed.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled:

  • Our trekking team will monitor the flight status and coordinate with the airline.
  • We will help arrange the next available flight based on the airline's schedule and seat availability.
  • A later flight or next-day flight may be required if weather or operating conditions prevent the scheduled flight.
  • Your trekking itinerary may need to be adjusted if the flight disruption affects your arrival in Lukla.
  • A helicopter flight may be considered when available and operational. Additional costs apply unless specifically included in your package.
  • We recommend keeping some flexibility in your Nepal travel plans, especially if you have an international flight shortly after your expected return from the trek.

Flight delays and cancellations are an important consideration when travelling to the Everest region. We strongly recommend allowing extra time in your overall Nepal itinerary rather than arranging an international flight immediately after your expected return from the trek.

Note: Additional accommodation, meals, road transfers or alternative flights resulting from weather-related delays, cancellations or other circumstances beyond our control are not included in the standard package unless specifically stated otherwise. Suitable travel insurance with trip-delay, cancellation and emergency coverage is recommended.

Helicopter Return from Everest Base Camp

The helicopter return is a key feature of this 9-day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, allowing you to complete the route without walking back through the Khumbu Valley. After reaching Everest Base Camp and hiking to Kala Patthar, you return to Kathmandu by helicopter.

How Many People Can Fly in the Helicopter?

Most helicopters used for Everest-region flights can carry up to 5 passengers, but the number carried from Gorakshep may be lower because of the high altitude, passenger weight, baggage and weather conditions.

The helicopter operator and pilot make the final decision based on safety, weight and operating conditions. For larger groups, the helicopter may need to make multiple shuttle flights.

How Does the Helicopter Return from Gorakshep Work?

After your early-morning hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) on Day 9, you return to Gorakshep (5,164 m) for breakfast. The helicopter then takes you from Gorakshep to Lukla, followed by the onward helicopter flight to Kathmandu.

The helicopter return saves several days of downhill trekking and is included in this package. The exact departure time depends on weather, visibility, helicopter availability and flight operations.

Why Does the Helicopter Stop in Lukla for Refuelling?

The helicopter stops in Lukla for refuelling before continuing to Kathmandu. This is part of the planned return flight from the Everest region.

The length of the stop can vary depending on refuelling and other operational conditions. Follow the instructions provided by the flight crew and our trekking team during the stop.

What Happens if the Helicopter Return Is Delayed by Weather?

The helicopter flight from Gorakshep depends on suitable mountain weather and visibility. Cloud, strong winds, snowfall and poor visibility can delay the helicopter flight or prevent it from operating safely.

Our team monitors the weather conditions and coordinates with the helicopter operator. If the helicopter flight cannot operate as planned, it may be delayed until conditions improve or rescheduled according to availability. Any changes to the itinerary will be made with your safety in mind.

Note: Weather or operational delays may result in additional costs and itinerary changes. These costs are not included in the standard package unless specifically stated otherwise. We recommend keeping some flexibility in your travel plans after the trek, particularly if you have an international flight from Nepal. Travel insurance covering trip delays and emergency evacuation is recommended.

Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek Route, Altitude and Acclimatization

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return follows the classic Everest Base Camp route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, passing through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep. The itinerary includes planned acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche before reaching the higher elevations of Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.

What Is the Highest Altitude on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The highest point reached on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is Kala Patthar at 5,545 m (18,192 ft). You hike to Kala Patthar early in the morning from Gorakshep for panoramic views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks before returning to Gorakshep.

Everest Base Camp is at 5,364 m (17,598 ft), while Gorakshep at approximately 5,164 m is the highest overnight stop. The ascent to Kala Patthar is physically demanding because of the high altitude and thin air, although it does not involve technical climbing.

What Are the Main Stops and Elevations on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The main trekking route follows:

Lukla → Phakding → Namche Bazaar → Tengboche → Dingboche → Lobuche → Gorakshep → Everest Base Camp → Gorakshe

The following chart shows the main overnight stops, acclimatization points and key destinations:

Kala Patthar is reached by an early-morning hike from Gorakshep and is the highest point of the trek.

How Many Hours Do You Walk Each Day on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Most trekking days involve around 5–6 hours of walking, although the actual time varies according to altitude, trail conditions, weather, rest breaks and individual pace.

The Everest Base Camp day is one of the longest and most demanding, taking approximately 7–8 hours as you trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep, continue to Everest Base Camp and return to Gorakshep. The early-morning Kala Patthar hike takes around 2–3 hours.

Your guide will maintain a steady pace and arrange appropriate rest breaks according to the group's condition, weather and trail conditions.

Why Are acclimatization Days Important on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek includes planned acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to give your body time to adjust gradually to the increasing altitude.

On these days, you hike to a higher elevation during the day and return to the same village to sleep. This allows your body to adapt before continuing to higher overnight elevations.

Acclimatisation is particularly important because the trek reaches 5,364 m at Everest Base Camp and 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. These days are therefore an important part of the itinerary rather than complete rest days.

What Are the Acclimatization Hikes Like on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

In Namche Bazaar, the acclimatization hike usually follows the trail towards Syangboche and Everest View Hotel, reaching approximately 3,880 m before returning to Namche. In clear weather, the higher sections provide views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Thamserku and other Himalayan peaks.

In Dingboche, the acclimatization hike heads towards Nagarjun Hill, reaching approximately 5,050 m, depending on weather conditions, the route and individual pace. This is the more demanding of the two acclimatization hikes because of the higher elevation, with views towards Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Makalu and Cholatse when visibility is good.

After each acclimatization hike, you return to your accommodation at the same overnight elevation before continuing towards the higher parts of the Everest Base Camp route.

Accommodation During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

Accommodation during the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is arranged in selected teahouses and mountain lodges along the trekking route. The package includes 8 nights of trekking accommodation, normally on a twin-sharing basis. Accommodation is generally more comfortable at lower elevations, while facilities become simpler as you approach Lobuche and Gorakshep.

What Accommodation Is Included in the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The package includes 8 nights of accommodation during the trek, covering the overnight stays specified in the itinerary from Phakding to Gorakshep.

Accommodation is arranged in selected teahouses and mountain lodges based on their location, cleanliness, available facilities and local availability. Rooms are normally provided on a twin-sharing basis, with two trekkers sharing one room.

Kathmandu hotel accommodation is not included in these 8 trekking nights unless it is added to the package or arranged separately. Private rooms or upgraded accommodation can also be requested where available for an additional charge.

What Are the Lodges Like During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The lodges provide a practical place to sleep, eat and rest after each day of trekking. Their facilities vary according to the location, altitude and individual property.

Lower-altitude stops generally offer more comfortable rooms, dining areas and a wider range of services. As you climb towards Everest Base Camp, options become more limited because of the remote mountain environment and limited local resources.

Around Lobuche and Gorakshep, lodge capacity is more limited and shared facilities are common. Here, “luxury” refers to selecting higher-quality accommodation available along the trekking route, rather than providing hotel-style facilities at every overnight stop.

Are Private Rooms and Attached Bathrooms Available on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Private rooms may be available at selected lodges, particularly at lower and mid-altitude stops, but they cannot be guaranteed throughout the trek. Availability becomes more limited at higher elevations, especially around Lobuche and Gorakshep.

Some lodges may offer attached bathrooms, while shared bathrooms are more common at higher elevations. Attached bathrooms should not be expected at the highest overnight stops.

Private rooms and accommodation upgrades are available at an additional cost and depend on availability.

Are Hot Showers and Heating Available on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Hot showers are available at selected lodges, particularly at lower and middle elevations, but they usually involve an additional charge. Availability may become limited at higher elevations due to water supply, fuel, electricity and weather conditions.

Heating is generally available in the communal dining area rather than inside individual bedrooms. Heated blankets may be available at some lodges, but they are not guaranteed at every overnight stop.

A suitable sleeping bag and warm clothing are therefore important, especially for nights at higher elevations.

Are Electricity, Wi-Fi and Mobile Network Available on the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Electricity is available at many lodges along the route, although charging facilities may be limited or subject to an additional fee. Power can also be less reliable at higher elevations.

Wi-Fi is available at some lodges, but connection quality and reliability vary. Mobile network coverage also changes along the route and may be weak or unavailable in some remote sections.

We recommend carrying a power bank and downloading important maps, documents and other information before starting the trek rather than relying entirely on lodge internet or mobile coverage.

What Is Accommodation Like at Lobuche and Gorakshep?

Accommodation at Lobuche and Gorakshep is more basic because of the high altitude and remote mountain environment. Rooms are generally simple, with shared bathrooms and limited facilities.

Hot showers, charging and other services may be available but are more limited and may involve an additional charge.

We arrange suitable high-quality accommodation at these high-altitude stops, subject to local availability.

Meals and Drinking Water During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

Meals and drinking water are an important part of the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, especially as the altitude increases and the walking becomes more demanding. The package includes breakfast, lunch and dinner during the scheduled trekking days, with meals served at teahouses and lodges along the route.

What Meals Are Included During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The package includes 8 breakfasts, 8 lunches and 8 dinners during the trekking portion of the itinerary. These meals are provided on the scheduled trekking days and at the overnight stops included in the package.

Breakfast is served at the morning's lodge before the day's walk, lunch is usually taken at a teahouse or restaurant along the trail, and dinner is served at the overnight lodge.

Kathmandu meals and personal beverages are not included unless specifically mentioned in the package. Tea, coffee, soft drinks, bottled water and other drinks can be purchased separately along the route.

What Food Is Available Along the Everest Base Camp Route?

Teahouses and lodges along the Everest Base Camp route serve a mix of Nepali, Tibetan, Indian and international-style dishes. Common choices include dal bhat, noodles, rice dishes, pasta, soups, potatoes, vegetables, eggs, bread, pancakes and momo.

Meal choices vary between teahouses and generally become more limited as you gain altitude, particularly around Lobuche and Gorakshep, where transporting supplies is more difficult.

Meal

Common choices

Breakfast

Porridge, eggs, pancakes, toast, Tibetan bread, muesli, cereal, tea or coffee

Lunch

Dal bhat, noodles, pasta, soup, fried rice, momo or potatoes

Dinner

Dal bhat, noodles, rice dishes, pasta, soup, vegetables or other teahouse meals

Dal bhat is a popular choice throughout the trek because it is filling and includes rice, lentil soup, vegetables and other side dishes. Other meals can be chosen according to the menu available at each teahouse.

Are Vegetarian and Vegan Meals Available?

Vegetarian meals are widely available along the Everest Base Camp route. Common choices include vegetable dal bhat, noodles, pasta, fried rice, potatoes, soups and other vegetable dishes.

Vegan meals can also be requested, although choices may become more limited at higher elevations. Ingredients and preparation methods vary between teahouses, so travellers with strict dietary requirements or food allergies should inform us before the trek.

We can pass your dietary requirements to the trekking team so suitable meal options can be discussed with the teahouses along the route.

How Do You Get Safe Drinking Water During the Trek?

Drinking water is available from teahouses, lodges and suitable refill points along the route. Bottled and boiled water can also be purchased during the trek, but these are not included in the package. For a practical and environmentally friendly option, carry reusable water bottles or a hydration bladder and refill them at suitable points. Avoid drinking directly from streams, taps or other natural water sources unless the water has been properly treated.

How Can You Purify Drinking Water During the Trek?

The package includes water-purification tablets for treating drinking water during the trek. Follow the instructions provided with the tablets, including the required contact time before drinking. A portable water filter or other suitable purification system can also be used. Your guide can advise you about appropriate refill points and available water sources along the route.

How Much Water Should You Carry Each Day?

Carrying around 2–3 litres of water is practical for most trekking days. You do not necessarily need to carry the full amount from the beginning of every day because water can usually be refilled along the route. Your water needs depend on walking time, weather, altitude and individual hydration requirements. Longer or more demanding walking days may require additional water. A reusable bottle or hydration bladder makes it easier to drink regularly while walking and helps reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles.

Best Time and Weather for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is possible throughout the year, but weather and trail conditions vary by season and altitude. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are generally the best times to trek, offering more stable weather, clearer mountain views and favorable trail conditions. Summer brings the monsoon, while winter is much colder and can bring snow and ice at higher elevations.

When Is the Best Time for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The best time for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek is generally spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons usually offer the best combination of favorable weather, good visibility and manageable trekking conditions.

October and November are particularly favorable for clear Himalayan views after the monsoon. March to May also offers good conditions, with gradually warmer daytime temperatures and rhododendron blooms in the lower sections of the route.

The trek is also possible during summer and winter, but travellers should be prepared for more changeable weather and trail conditions.

What Is the Weather Like During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Weather changes significantly as you gain altitude. Lukla and the lower sections are generally milder, while temperatures become much colder around Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep.

At higher elevations, strong winds, snow, ice, cloud and reduced visibility are possible. Conditions can change quickly, so suitable clothing is important throughout the trek.

As the itinerary reaches 5,545 m at Kala Patthar, you should bring warm layers, an insulated jacket, waterproof outerwear, gloves, a warm hat and sturdy trekking footwear.

Spring (March to May)

Spring brings warmer daytime conditions and blooming rhododendrons in the lower sections. Higher areas can still be cold, particularly early in the season, and some snow may remain at higher elevations.

Summer and Monsoon (June to August)

The monsoon brings more rain, cloud and reduced mountain visibility, with lower sections of the trail generally more affected. Wet or slippery conditions are possible. Weather can also affect Lukla flights, so travellers trekking during this period should keep some flexibility in their schedule.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn generally brings drier conditions, clearer skies and good mountain views. October and November are particularly favourable, although the Everest Base Camp route is also busier during this period. September can still experience some rain or cloud, especially early in the month, as the monsoon gradually withdraws.

Winter (December to February)

Winter brings very cold temperatures and possible snow or ice at higher elevations. Clear days can provide good mountain visibility, but proper winter clothing and preparation for freezing conditions are essential.

Can Weather Affect Lukla Flights and the Helicopter Return?

Yes. Weather can affect both Lukla flights and the helicopter return. Poor visibility, cloud, strong winds, rain and other mountain conditions may cause delays, rescheduling or cancellation.

At the beginning of the trek, weather may affect the flight from Kathmandu or Manthali Airport to Lukla. On Day 9, the planned helicopter journey from Gorakshep to Lukla and onward to Kathmandu is also subject to suitable weather and operating conditions.

The helicopter returns to Lukla for refuelling before continuing to Kathmandu, subject to flight and weather conditions. The routing or schedule may change when necessary for safety and operational reasons.

Himalayan Ecological Trekking monitors the situation and coordinates with the relevant operator when weather affects the planned arrangements. We recommend keeping some flexibility before your international departure from Nepal in case the return flight is delayed.

What Travel Insurance Do You Need for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Travel insurance is essential for this high-altitude trek. Your policy should cover the full duration of your trip and specifically include high-altitude trekking up to at least 5,545 m, the maximum elevation reached at Kala Patthar.

Make sure your policy provides suitable cover for:

  • High-altitude trekking
  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Helicopter evacuation and mountain rescue
  • Hospitalisation and related medical expenses
  • Repatriation
  • Trip cancellation or interruption, where covered
  • Travel delays and other eligible disruptions, where included

Check your policy's maximum altitude, exclusions, trekking conditions and helicopter evacuation coverage before travelling.

The scheduled helicopter return included in this package is a planned part of the itinerary and is different from emergency helicopter evacuation. Emergency rescue and evacuation costs are generally the traveller's responsibility and should be covered by appropriate travel insurance.

What Emergency and Evacuation Support Is Available?

Emergency and evacuation support is available during the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, with your guide providing first-aid support and basic altitude monitoring throughout the trek. The guide can recognize possible altitude-related problems and coordinate emergency assistance when required.

If a serious medical problem occurs, our trekking team will help coordinate the appropriate response, including helicopter evacuation where medically necessary and operationally possible.

Keep your travel insurance policy details and emergency assistance number easily accessible throughout the trek. Emergency rescue and evacuation costs are generally the traveller's responsibility and should be covered by suitable high-altitude trekking insurance.

Difficulty, Health, Fitness and Preparation

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is suitable for well-prepared travellers who are comfortable with long mountain walks at increasing elevations. Most trekking days involve around 5–8 hours of walking, although the exact duration varies according to the route, terrain, weather and walking pace. The trail includes gradual climbs, steeper sections, descents and uneven surfaces, with the higher sections generally requiring more effort.

How Difficult Is the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

The trek is graded moderate to challenging. It does not involve technical climbing, but the combination of daily walking, steep sections, rocky trails and high altitude requires good stamina.

A typical trekking day involves several hours on the trail, with regular breaks for rest, meals and short pauses as needed. Some days are shorter, while the higher-altitude sections can feel more demanding even when the walking distance is not particularly long.

The trail becomes more challenging as you gain elevation. The route includes stone steps, rocky paths, uneven ground and sustained uphill and downhill sections. Above Dingboche, the thinner air can make your pace slower and increase the need for regular breaks.

The itinerary includes acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche before you continue towards Lobuche, Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar (5,545 m).

The helicopter return removes the need for the long walk back through the Khumbu Valley, making the overall journey shorter. It does not, however, change the walking required to reach the highest points of the itinerary.

What Are the Common Symptoms of Altitude Sickness?

Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a common altitude-related problem that can occur as you ascend to higher elevations. Common symptoms include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Difficulty sleeping

Symptoms can be mild at first, but they should not be ignored. More serious warning signs may include confusion, difficulty walking or maintaining balance, unusual drowsiness, severe weakness or difficulty breathing.

Tell your guide immediately if you develop any symptoms or if they become worse. Do not continue to a higher elevation until your condition has been assessed.

When Should You Inform Your Guide if You Feel Unwell?

You should inform your guide immediately if you develop altitude-related symptoms or notice that your condition is getting worse. Do not try to hide symptoms or continue ascending simply because you want to keep to the planned itinerary.

Your guide can assess your condition and advice on the appropriate next step. Depending on the situation, this may involve resting, stopping further ascent, descending to a lower elevation or arranging additional medical assistance.

How Fit Do You Need to Be?

You do not need previous mountaineering experience or technical climbing skills. You should, however, have a good level of general fitness and be comfortable walking uphill and downhill for several hours.

You should ideally be able to:

  • Walk for 5–8 hours with breaks on a trekking day.
  • Climb and descend hills without excessive difficulty.
  • Walk confidently on rocky, uneven and sometimes steep trails.
  • Carry a light daypack with personal essentials.
  • Maintain a comfortable pace without rushing.

Previous trekking experience is helpful but not essential. Regular walking, hiking and aerobic exercise before the trip can provide a good base for the journey.

Physical fitness does not remove the risk of altitude sickness. Proper acclimatisation, hydration, rest and following your guide's advice remain important at higher elevations.

How Should You Prepare for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Begin your preparation several weeks before departure. Concentrate on building cardiovascular fitness, strengthening your legs and becoming comfortable with longer walks.

Useful training includes:

  • Walking and hiking: Gradually increase your distance and include hills or stairs.
  • Cardiovascular exercise: Brisk walking, cycling, jogging or similar activities can improve stamina.
  • Leg strength: Squats, lunges and step-ups can strengthen the muscles used during climbs and descents.
  • Longer practice walks: Include some extended walks before departure to become comfortable spending several hours on your feet.
  • Pack practice: Carry your daypack during some training walks to become familiar with its weight.

Prepare your equipment before the trek as well. Break in your trekking boots, test your daypack and prepare a practical layering system for changing mountain conditions. Your clothing and equipment should provide suitable protection from cold, wind, sun and possible snow.

During the trek, keep a steady and comfortable pace, take regular breaks and eat and drink properly. The pre-trek briefing in Kathmandu is also a good time to review the route, check your equipment and discuss any concerns with your trekking team.

Good preparation and realistic expectations about the daily walking demands will help you manage the trek more comfortably and enjoy the journey to Everest Base Camp.

The Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is supported by an experienced trekking team throughout the journey. A government-licensed trekking guide leads the group, manages daily arrangements and provides practical support on the trail. Optional porter service is also available for travellers who prefer to carry less of their main luggage during the trek.

Is a Guide Included in the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

Yes. An experienced, government-licensed and English-speaking trekking guide is included in the standard Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek package.

Your guide has high-altitude trekking experience and first-aid training and remains with you throughout the trekking portion of the journey. The guide helps with route navigation, daily trekking arrangements, acclimatisation, safety and communication with lodges and local staff.

For groups of more than 10 trekkers, an assistant guide is provided in addition to the main trekking guide to support the group with route coordination, pacing and daily arrangements on the trail.

What Does the Trekking Guide Do?

Your trekking guide is responsible for the main day-to-day arrangements throughout the trek. The guide will:

  • Lead the group along the planned Everest Base Camp route.
  • Monitor your general wellbeing, walking pace and acclimatisation as you gain altitude.
  • Provide practical guidance on walking at higher elevations and recognising possible signs of altitude illness.
  • Coordinate accommodation, meals and daily trekking arrangements.
  • Monitor weather and trail conditions and help adjust the route or schedule when necessary.
  • Communicate with lodge staff and other local service providers.
  • Provide basic first-aid support when required.

Is Porter Service Included in the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

No. Porter service is not included in the standard package, but it is available as an optional add-on for trekkers who prefer to carry less of their main luggage during the trek.

When porter service is arranged, your porter carries your main trekking luggage between overnight stops, while you carry a smaller daypack containing the items you need during the day, such as water, snacks, warm layers, medication, valuables and travel documents.

How Much Weight Can a Porter Carry?

Under the standard porter arrangement, one porter carries up to 20 kg of combined luggage for two trekkers, with a maximum of 10 kg per trekker.

Your daypack is separate from the porter luggage and remains with you throughout the trek. Keep your passport, money, medication, valuables, essential electronics and other items you may need during the day in your daypack.

Note: The porter's luggage allowance is separate from the Lukla flight baggage allowance, so the airline's baggage restrictions still apply.

Money, ATMs and Personal Expenses

Nepalese Rupees (NPR) are the most practical currency for personal expenses during the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek. Foreign currency can be exchanged and banking services are readily available in Kathmandu, while cash and card facilities become more limited as you travel towards the higher parts of the Everest region.

Most scheduled trekking services are covered according to your package, but you should carry enough cash for personal expenses, optional services and tips. We recommend arranging most of your trekking money in Kathmandu before heading into the mountains.

How Much Money Should You Carry for the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

For the 9-day Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, we recommend carrying around NPR 15,000–25,000 per person for personal expenses. This is generally enough for common extras such as hot showers, Wi-Fi, device charging, hot drinking water, snacks, drinks and tips.

Your actual spending depends on what you purchase and how often you use paid services. Travellers who use fewer extras may spend less, while those who regularly purchase drinks, snacks or other services may spend more.

It is also sensible to keep a small additional cash reserve for unexpected expenses. This budget is separate from the trek package price and does not include optional services such as porter service.

What Extra Expenses Should You Budget For?

The following expenses are generally not included in the standard package:

  • Hot showers
  • Wi-Fi and internet
  • Device charging
  • Hot drinking water
  • Tea, coffee, soft drinks and other beverages
  • Snacks and personal purchases
  • Tips for guides, porters, drivers and other support staff

Prices may be higher at greater elevations because supplies and services are more difficult to transport to remote mountain areas.

What Personal Expenses Are Common During the Trek?

Hot Shower

Hot showers are available at many teahouses and lodges but are usually charged separately. Availability can become more limited at higher elevations.

Wi-Fi and Internet

Some teahouses and lodges offer Wi-Fi or internet access for an additional charge. Connection quality varies along the route and may be slower or unavailable in the higher sections of the trek.

Device Charging

Charging facilities are available at many lodges, usually for an additional fee. Availability can become more limited at higher elevations or during power interruptions.

Hot Drinking Water

Hot drinking water can usually be purchased at teahouses and lodges for an additional charge. Prices may increase as you gain altitude.

Snacks and Drinks

Tea, coffee, soft drinks, chocolate, biscuits, energy bars and other refreshments can be purchased along the route. Prices generally increase at higher elevations.

Tips

Tips are not included in the standard package. Tipping is a personal choice, but many travellers choose to thank their guides, porters, drivers and other support staff at the end of the trek.

Where Can You Exchange Money in Kathmandu?

You can exchange foreign currency at banks and licensed money changers in Kathmandu. Tourist areas such as Thamel have several authorised money-changing businesses.

It is best to arrange most of the cash you expect to need before leaving Kathmandu. Check the exchange rate and count your Nepalese Rupees before leaving the counter.

Are ATMs Available During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek?

ATM access becomes more limited as you travel towards the higher parts of the Everest region. Banking and ATM services are more likely to be available in larger settlements such as Namche Bazaar, but you should not depend entirely on being able to withdraw cash there.

ATM availability, cash supply, network connections and operating conditions can change, so a working machine is not guaranteed when you need one.

For this reason, it is best to carry sufficient Nepalese Rupees from Kathmandu to cover your expected personal expenses throughout the trek.

What Are the ATM Withdrawal Limits and Charges?

ATM withdrawal limits and charges vary depending on the bank, ATM operator, card network and your card issuer. The following figures are general planning guidelines rather than fixed limits for every ATM.

Can You Pay by Card in the Everest Region?

Some hotels, teahouses, shops and other businesses may accept debit or credit cards, particularly in larger settlements such as Namche Bazaar. However, card payment is not consistently available throughout the trekking route.

Cash is therefore the more reliable payment method, especially as you travel towards Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorakshep.

Do not rely entirely on a bank card. Carry sufficient Nepalese cash and keep a backup card separately where possible.

What Is the Best Way to Carry Money During the Trek?

Keep your cash, bank cards and other valuables secure and close to you throughout the trek. Avoid keeping all your money in one place and carry only the amount you are likely to need during the day.

A small waterproof pouch can help protect your cash and cards from moisture. Keep your passport, money, bank cards and other valuables in your daypack, rather than in your main trekking luggage.

Culture, Heritage and Natural Attractions of the Everest Region

The Everest region is known for more than Mount Everest. It is also home to Sherpa communities, Buddhist heritage, protected mountain landscapes and dramatic Himalayan scenery. During the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, you pass through traditional mountain villages, visit Buddhist sites and walk through the protected landscapes of Sagarmatha National Park.

The trek also takes you to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar, where you can experience the glaciers, valleys and high Himalayan peaks that characterise the Khumbu.

What Is the Everest Region Known For?

The Everest region is best known for Mount Everest, Sherpa culture, Buddhist monasteries, trekking routes and high Himalayan landscapes. The classic Everest Base Camp route passes through villages such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching Everest Base Camp.

Much of the trekking route lies within Sagarmatha National Park, which protects the region's forests, mountain ecosystems, glaciers and wildlife.

Who Are the Sherpa People?

The Sherpa are an ethnic community traditionally associated with the mountainous areas of eastern Nepal, particularly the Khumbu region. Their culture has been shaped by mountain life, Tibetan Buddhism, traditional livelihoods and close-knit village communities.

As you trek through the Khumbu, you can see stone-built houses, mani walls, prayer flags, chortens and monasteries that reflect the area's Sherpa heritage and Buddhist traditions.

What Is the Significance of Tengboche Monastery?

Tengboche Monastery is one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Khumbu region. It is an important religious centre for local Sherpa communities and sits in a scenic mountain setting with views of Ama Dablam and other surrounding peaks.

Tengboche is also a significant cultural stop on the Everest Base Camp route, giving trekkers a chance to learn more about the Buddhist traditions and spiritual heritage of the Khumbu.

What Is Sagarmatha National Park?

Sagarmatha National Park protects a large part of the Everest region and includes high mountains, glaciers, valleys, forests and alpine landscapes.

As you gain altitude, the landscape gradually changes from pine and rhododendron forests at lower elevations to more open and rugged terrain higher in the mountains. The park also provides habitat for a range of Himalayan wildlife and bird species.

What Is Special About Everest Base Camp?

Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m is the main destination of the trek. It is used by mountaineering expeditions preparing to climb Mount Everest from the Nepal side.

The area around Base Camp is surrounded by the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefall, creating a distinctive high-altitude landscape. Mount Everest is not directly visible from Base Camp, as the summit is hidden by Nuptse and other surrounding peaks.

Why Is Kala Patthar Famous?

Kala Patthar at 5,545 m is one of the best-known viewpoints on the Everest Base Camp route. On the Luxury Everest Base Camp Trek, you make an early-morning hike to Kala Patthar from Gorakshep.

From the viewpoint, you can see Mount Everest, Nuptse, Pumori and other Himalayan peaks. An early start also gives you the chance to see the mountains in the morning light, weather permitting. Kala Patthar is the highest point reached on this itinerary.

What Wildlife Can You See in the Everest Region?

The Everest Base Camp route passes through Sagarmatha National Park, where Himalayan wildlife can be found across different elevations and habitats.

Possible wildlife sightings include Himalayan tahr, musk deer, goral, red panda, snow leopard and various mountain bird species. Sightings are not guaranteed, particularly at higher elevations.

When you encounter wildlife, keep a safe distance, do not feed animals and avoid disturbing their natural habitat.
