Kailash view from Laptse la
Kailash is a sacred mountain located near Lake Manasarovar in Tibet, deeply revered by pilgrims and spiritual seekers. Although direct access from Tibet is limited at times, there is still a remarkable way to experience its presence from Nepal.
Himalayan Ecological Trekking offers a unique opportunity to witness Mount Kailash from the east-south direction, seen from Lapche La Pass at 5,018 meters. The journey begins with a short flight to Nepalgunj in the low southern plains, followed by an early morning scenic flight over the Himalayas to Simikot at 2,800 meters.
In Simikot, you can experience local traditions and a shamanistic cultural program that connects you with the deep spiritual roots of the region. The trek then follows the remote Karnali River valley, offering raw mountain landscapes and peaceful wilderness. Natural hot springs along the route provide a refreshing break in the high mountains.
As you ascend toward Nyalula Pass (4,900 meters), the landscape becomes more dramatic, opening into the vast, untouched terrain of the Limi Valley. From here, Lapche La Pass reveals distant views toward the Tibetan plateau, where Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar can be seen on clear days, giving a powerful sense of closeness to this sacred region.
The Limi Valley itself reflects a strong Tibetan Buddhist culture, with ancient monasteries, traditional villages like Halji, and a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries. Along the way, you’ll pass through quiet wildlife areas, sacred prayer structures, and secluded cave monasteries that give the trek a richer cultural and spiritual feel.
The route also passes through the historic Hilsa border area, once an important salt trading corridor between Nepal and Tibet. Today, it remains a quiet gateway rich in history and mountain culture.
The trip is fully organised with domestic flights, camping arrangements, organic meals, experienced crew support, and all required permits, ensuring a safe and well-managed journey into one of Nepal’s most remote and spiritual landscapes.
